Gym Wednesday: Major Lazor – Get Free (Andy C remix)

I am sure most of you guys are aware of Major Lazor’s original version of this song. There are countless numbers of remixes done, and Diplo himself has showcased a lot of his favourite already. This is one of them, and it’s by the world famous DnB DJ Andy C. As I have mentioned in previous post regarding 16Bit, I got to see Andy C (opened by 16Bit) in a grimy no roof warehouse/bar venue when Andy C blew the power out on the block for almost 2 hours while they tried to find a back up generator. One of the craziest nights I’ve had and only cost $15 I think. Mental.

Anyways this is a really good remix and a perfect song for a gym playlist. Turn it up and I hope you like it.

Gym Wednesday: Jay Z & Kanye West ft. Frank Ocean – No Church In The Wild

I’m pretty certain almost everybody will know this track. This is from the iconic album by Jay Z and Kanye West ‘Watch The Throne’. With Frank Ocean on vocals, this is one of many tracks on the album that are simply incredible. This was a much hyped release and the album did not disappoint. You all know who Jay Z and Kanye West are and I’m assuming pretty much all of you know Frank Ocean. He gained a lot of respect outside of his music due to an incident involving the lovable Chris Brown. Mr Brown apparently punched Frank Ocean over a dispute over a parking spot at the recording studio they both use. At an award ceremony not long after, Frank Ocean won the award for ‘Best Urban Contemporary Album’ which both of them were nominated for. Frank Ocean received a standing ovation for this achievement, while Chris Brown remained seated like a sore loser. Perfectly captured here.

Not much else to say about the track apart from I object to the line ‘‘what’s a god to a non-believer, who don’t believe in anything?’ That’s nihilism, not atheism. But I forgive you, Mr.Ocean. I hope you like it.

Pump Up Wednesday: Nero – Guilt

It would only be fair to put some Nero in this playlist, and somehow this song came to me as a complete surprise. I had Nero’s album ** on in the gym and this song came on, and I wasn’t familiar with it. As I was setting up for some monster deadlifts (calm down, ladies) I could hear the track building up so knew when it was about to drop. To my complete amazement my £3.99 T.K. Maxx headphones produced the most crisp and loud bass drop even more than my home speakers. I couldn’t believe how perfect it is for my gym playlist.
All I knew about Nero before this was his ‘Blinded By The Lights’ REMIX so now I definitely need to see this guy. I’m pretty sure a lot of you will know this, but hope you enjoy it anyway.

Pump Up Wednesday: Dub Phizix – Never Been

Match got cancelled so that was slightly disappointing, but needed to get pumped up for the windman social. Hadn’t drank since new Years so needed to get prepared for the night! No memory of reaching Sugarhouse, and as I didn’t get kicked out I think I did ok.

Onto the music. I only really listen to this for its intro. Playing it through decent speakers the bass is nice in this. No idea about the artists. Enjoy

Pump-Up Wednesday: Johnny Cash – God’s Gonna’ Cut You Down

No BUCS game today, but a game against the 3rds. Absolutely shit performance, touched my feet more than my stick, not very impressed. Here’s a good song though.

Johnny Cash puts so much passion into his songs, and he makes every cover song he does his own. Notably, ‘Hurt’ and ‘Personal Jesus’ are two that truly do take on a different form when he sings them.

‘Gods Gonna Cut You Down’ is an old folk song warning sinners of how their lives will turn out. Johnny Cash seems to put a lot of emotion into this even though his singing is effortless. I’m a big fan of Johnny Cash.

Johnny Cash got in a fight with an ostrich, got 5 broken ribs as a result. He’s a fucking bad-ass.
Hope you like his music, I strongly recommend you check it out.

Pump-Up Wednesday: Alvin Risk – Kill The Noise remix

I now have a larger gym playlist than I used to now, and this is one of the most recent additions to it.
I was introduced to Alvin Risk at Ultra last year, as a mate dragged me to him as he was educating me on EDM. I believe this guy toured with Skrillex, which makes sense seeing how loud he is. Very good song, I’m going to have to keep following this guy, hope you like it!

Pump-Up Wednesday: Miami Hurricanes 2011-2012 entrance video

There’s no hockey today but still gym so why not show you all some College football pump up videos. This was the Entrance at every Cane home game before the players ran out on the pitch. The U has a pretty sweet history in College Football, some of the big names that came through are Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Michael Irvin, Devin Hester, Vince Wilfork, and my favourite name, Dwayne Johnson. Yes, The Rock. Absolute hero.

The speech given in this video is by Michael Irvin, a cane who went on to join the NFL hall of fame. He shows so much passion in his public speaking, showcased in this speech to the Hurricane team pre season. I first saw this video when it was played at the opening game of the season against OSU, and I can’t remember the score but I’m pretty sure we won. It was an awesome experience for my first Football game ever.
The U didn’t do too bad at the end of the season, we could have had a bowl game but we pulled out over the allegations that was going on involving Dave Shapiro, but I can’t be bothered going into what it all was, the NCAA annoy me. After seeing what it was really like, I now understand what South Park’s ‘Crack-Baby Basketball’ episode was all about. Anyways here you go. Get motivated to do whatever you do today.

Pump-Up Wednesday: Knife Party – Centipede

A big match today! We are playing University of Cumbria in a derby game, if we win we go 2nd in the league. So let’s go. I really need to see these guys. I’m sure pretty much everybody is familiar with what Knife Party can do. They have a few songs in the charts notably ‘BONFIRE’ but another huge song that have got them known is “destroy them with lasers. It was a coin toss between posting Centipede or destroy them with lasers as my song for today, so definitely check out both. Knife Party are a group of DJ’s that branched off of Pendulum when they broke up to do separate things. Their sound is very different to Pendulum, but that isn’t a bad thing. I really want to see these guys live!
Hope you guys enjoy this, turn it up.

Pump-Up Wednesday: Noisia – Machine Gun (16bit remix)

This is an absolutely filthy song. If any of you have seen the stupid YouTube comments on dubstep videos (this song is so dirty, when my mum came in my room I switched to porn etc) they all belong on this song. The original song by Noisia is good, but 16bit absolutely destroys it and this is one of the biggest pump-up songs I know at the moment.

I got to see 16bit when he opened for Andy C at a grimy club in Miami. (miami miami miami blah blah miami). It was a club with half a roof..Just plain nasty and that night was absolutely unreal. One of the heaviest nights in my year abroad, definitely a highlight. 16bit came on, the crowd went mental every song, and just before Andy C came on, the power on most the block went out. With no backup generator the whole place was absolutely pitch black. I was in the bathroom at the time and freaked the hell out. While the organisers went on search of a generator the MC’s of all the DJ’s performing that night congregated by the side of the stage and started ciphering in a circle. I made sure I was close enough to film it in the dark, but far enough away not to get dragged in. These guys went hard. The only name of one I remember is DJ Jumanji. So once that ended, generator found, the night carried on.

I actually got to meet 16bit that night, although I didn’t know it was him. I didn’t really pay attention to what he looked like during his set, the whole thing was kind of a blur. I should have remembered him. Pale skin, long ginger hair and a massive ginger moustache. Can’t believe I didn’t notice. Well when I asked him if he was about to do his set, seeing as he had just come off, him and his mates weren’t too impressed. I think the first of his mates asked aggressively ‘mate, do you know who he fucking is?’ to which I replied no. Wrong answer. In my defence, I said that I knew him from YouTube (total lie) and that your face isn’t on the screen while your music is played, but I still got slapped by 16bit after his mates jeered him on. Then he walked off. Good times. In hindsight, I should have called him 8bit just to piss him off, but I’d probably get kicked out. Luckily my genius failed me in the moment and I got to see Andy C tear up the place. Brilliant night.

Well I don’t expect many of you to enjoy this, but here you are.

Pump-Up Wednesday: Chase & Status ft Dizzee Rascal – HEAVY

I was thinking about putting this on Thursday, but this really is too heavy. Even though Dizzee Rascal has edged away from his Grime background, he hasn’t lost it. Chase and Status really have brought out the best in him with this. It’s hard to not put all of Chase and Status’ tracks in this category, they all go hard. Seeing them live was the only time I’ve ever thrown up after a gig. I wasn’t prepared for it.
There’s not really much else to say about this. Well there is, but nothing really interesting. It’s just a big song. Hope you enjoy it.
