Foreign Friday – Japan: DJ Krush – Song 2

This week I’m taking you guys to Japan, and let me introduce you to DJ Krush. I have a feeling I may have already mentioned him or even posted a song by him, but I forget. I am a big fan of the stuff this guy has done so it’s only fair I post Dj Krush here.

DJ Krush has a pretty interesting life story, which is still shrouded in mystery to some degree, involving being a part of the Yakuza.

Ishi dropped out of school at an early age and joined a local gang, and a few years later, the yakuza. Early into his career as a yakuza underling, Ishi discovered a severed finger wrapped in paper on his desk. Later, after discovering that it had belonged to his best friend, he decided to leave the yakuza and cut ties with the criminal underworld.

He has been revolutionary in bringing Hip Hop/ turntabilism to Japan, which is a pretty incredible reputation to have.

There is a pretty interesting documentary about DJ skills called ‘Scratch‘ which features DJ Krush for a segment, highlighting how different he is to the majority of other DJ’s.

The song I’m posting up here is one of many that I could show you as there are quite a few that all belong here. In particular, Song 1, Song 2, Kemuri and Zen Approach are all incredible songs for different reasons, so feel free to check out the links of those too. But as I have to pick one, I choose Song 2, as it was the first song I ever heard of his. It was featured on one of my favourite games, LittleBigPlanet. I hope you like it, and check out his other tracks I’ve listed, they may feature at a later date too.
